Lunch

Black bean and corn salad

Mozzarella and pasta salad

Last week I decided to make mason jar salads for lunch. I chose a simple recipe that sounded good enough to eat everyday. It made my morning routine so much easier and I didn't have to think about what to have for lunch. Just grab a jar (and bowl and fork) and go.

This week I made a more difficult recipe, which still only took about 30 minutes to put together. There are so many recipes for these mason jar salads that I could have something different every week.

Speaking of, there are only 7 more weeks until summer vacation!

Giving Up

I did manage to fix my hunchback problem, but I can't seem to get the top to fit just right. I've resewn the collar line a couple of times but it still wants to bulge. The sleeves are slightly different widths. I'm not sure how that happened.

I guess I'll buy something for the wedding. I might buy a sweater to go over this and wear it on Easter.

The "Oh, shit!" Moment

This is the moment of truth, when I discovered my dress was designed for a hunchback. Let the seam ripping and altering commence. This just keeps getting more and more fun.

But I really am enjoying it, in that it is a complete departure from my day to day work.

Back in Business

My sewing machine has been finicky all week. The thread kept catching in the bobbin thing-a-ma-bob. I took it apart. Cleaned it. Had Eric try to fix it. He watched YouTube videos. We finally gave up. And then it just decided to start working again. Go figure.

Beautiful foggy start to the day. From my window.

Democracy

I voted.

And I also spent time researching how to immigrate to Canada. It isn't as easy as you would think.

Invisible Zipper

I have never put in an invisible zipper before. It is a little daunting. You have to iron down the coils first and then sew right on the edge of the coils. I think it looks great now that it's done.

I am using a Burda pattern. I had never heard of this company before, but I liked the pattern. The directions are complete crap. They don't refer to the pieces by number and sometimes don't use the same name on the pattern as in the directions. The dress is fully lined, but there are no directions on how to sew the lining. I'm relying on all my previous experience to put this dress together! You can see how I've sewn the lining to the zipper. I hope I don't have to rip all this out in a few more steps. Somehow I'll make it work.

Progress

A week in and I've got the front put together. I'm sewing the lining at the same time, so it's like making two dresses.

New project

My latest project is to make my mother-of-the-bride dress. I'm not crazy about the pattern on this fabric, but I really like the blue color. I still need to get a zipper and interfacing, but so far I've only spent about $30. That's considerably cheaper than a ready made dress. Plus, sewing is relaxing for me. I'm going to take my time with it and hopefully finish in a couple of weeks.
